Sherwood Forest Library

This was a sponsor project by Quicken Loans.  We were asked to re-design the library for the community and their needs.  We did multiple on-site visits to measure the physical space and interview workers and patrons.  My main focus of reseach was on Maslow’s Hierarchy and how that could be implemented in a library setting to benefit the community.
I did research on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and how that could support a community environment.
Individual Space:
Removable, Sectioned-Off Seating Provides A Private Area For Patrons And Allows Flexibility Of Space.
Social Area:
Seating With No Boundaries Allows Library Staff And Patrons To Work Side By Side And Encourage Social Interaction Amongst Them.
Event Space:
Moveable Furniture Allows Flexibility To Accommodate A Variety Of Events.
The play area invites people of all ages to utilize for their benefit.  The patterns and colors are inspired by Memphis design which is derived from the art deco elements of the pre-existing building. This area fulfills the love and belonging need from Maslow’s Hierarchy by creating a comfortable, inviting area.
